This weekend, I have carefully curated my top picks for live music in the area.
Saturday, I would only be interested in attending the Pittonkatonk. This unique event combines music and an eco friendly potluck that supports music education in Pittsburgh High Schools. You can see why I’d be interested in checking out this event.
Sunday, you can choose from a jazz, folk, or metal show. It really depends on what vibe you want to hear that night. I don’t think you can go wrong with seeing Katie Simone, Merce Lemon, or p.s.you’redead.
Note: Shows are always subject to change or be canceled. I recommend buying your ticket in advance &/or checking before leaving for the show. Buying tickets in advance also shows venues your support for your favorite bands.
Saturday May 14th
Son Rompe Pera, Gili Yalo & Anbessa Orchestra, Undertow Brass Band, Torbaci, Kiko Villamizar, Detroit Party Marching Band, Colonel Eagleburger Band, Timbeleza, Big Blitz, 1Hood, Afro Yaqui Music Collective, May Day Marching Band, & Bitch Thunder at the 2022 Pittonkatonk at the Vietnam Veterans’ Pavilion Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, PA. Free. The event runs from 1PM-11PM. The potluck is from 1PM-5PM. Performance times aren’t announced. This is a zero waste event. this is sure to be a fun event.
Sunday May 15th
Katie Simone, Mark Lucas, Joe Munroe, Jason Rafalak, Brian Wolfe at the Con Alma Downtown in Pittsburgh, PA from 5PM-8PM. This is a jazz show. I’ve been following Katie for a while. She’s a talented vocalist.
Squirrel Flower, Mia Joy, Merce Lemon at Club Cafe in Pittsburgh PA, Doors 6:30PM, Show 8PM. Tickets are $13. This show will have an indie folk style. I am a fan of both Merce Lemon and the venue. I’d definitely check this show out if possible. It promises three heartfelt performances in a more personal setting. Please note: Merce Lemon is no longer playing this show.
p.s.you’redead, Blind Equation, & Kith Bah at Preserving Underground in New Kensington, PA, 7PM, $10 Cover. This is a metal show. Pittsburgh’s Place Blame is no longer performing at this show.
